Unaccounted For Events In The Time Gaps
In the game, there are two big breaks of time that don’t make sense. First, thirteen years pass between when Clive was a teen and when he was an adult. After that, there is another five-year break right after Cid dies in this game.
When Clive was a teenager, he thought Joshua had died. This made his feelings go up and down like a roller coaster. What happened to Clive during this time, and what about Joshua? He was found to be alive after all, and hiding for 18 years is a long time.
How Big Are The Undying?
There is one sign that can help us figure out how Joshua lived as long as he did. He was with a guard named Jote, who is part of a group called The Undying. Like the brotherhood in Assassin’s Creed, this group has sworn to protect the land from the shadows. How big was this group when the country still existed? How big are they now, when the real game is played?
There are a few others, like Cyril, besides Jote, but this needs more than a dozen people to work. Also, why wasn’t Joshua’s uncle, Byron, at least told that he was safe, since he was also helping in secret to rebuild his old kingdom?
Was Ultima An Alien?
It’s hard to know what Ultima really was and what he really wanted. His words were flowery, and he never told Clive or anyone else in the game the truth. From what we know about the situation, it seems like Ultima was an alien from another world.
In the past, there have been aliens in this series, like Jenova from Final Fantasy 7. So, it wouldn’t be too strange if Ultima turned out to be another Jenova case. For now, we don’t know in Final Fantasy 16.
Who Are The Fallen?
In the game, the Fallen were an ancient society that lived well during a golden age. That’s about all players are told about them. There are big, white buildings all over the open-world areas that used to belong to them. Players can also go through a number of dungeons that are said to have been made by The Fallen.
If Ultima is an alien, there could be a link between her people and The Fallen. That’s one idea, but this series is full of dead societies from the past. So, this one will probably stay a riddle, like the Cetra in Final Fantasy 7, to bring that one up again.
Three Deaths Unaccounted For?
In the last fight with Ultima, Dion, Clive, and Joshua all die. Dion changes into Bahamut and fights bravely, but the last shot of him shows him falling through the sky. Since Dion’s body isn’t shown all over the floor, he might still be living. Joshua is definitely dead until Clive takes on the powers of Ultima.
It seems like Clive uses this power to give his life for Joshua, but the game never says Clive dies and never shows Joshua getting back up. The book at the end is the only sign that Joshua is still living. Still, anyone could pretend to be Joshua and write that book, just like Clive did in Spacebar Clicker game after Cid died by playing as Cid.
Clive As Mythos
All of Ultima’s players, including Barnabas, call Clive “Mythos.” No one ever finds out what this means. Ifrit is the second Eikon of fire, and Clive can change into it. This is the only thing in the game that is connected to two Eikons.
It’s possible that Mythos is a rebel from Ultima’s race who takes over Clive and gives him the power of Ifrit. Even Ultima’s true form seems to be something like an Ifrit. Is that true, or is there more to the name “Mythos” and why Clive could receive powers?
Where Is Leviathan?
In the story, Leviathan is often used as a stand-in for a water-based Summon. Most of the time, it looks like a big snake, like in Final Fantasy 15. In Final Fantasy 16, there is talk about Leviathan, but it is never shown. It looks like the Dominant for it hasn’t been seen in a long time either.
It makes no sense to me that anything of this nature would be left unresolved, especially considering that a significant part of the objective of the game is for Clive to amass Eikon powers to employ in combat. Was the fact that Leviathan was mentioned a hint about where DLC could go?
Who Are Those Kids At The End?
Two boys who live in a house own the book written by Joshua that was just called “Final Fantasy.” A woman is with them, who seems to be their mother. Are these two boys the children of anyone players have met in Final Fantasy 16? Are they perhaps Joshua’s children?
Also, how long into the future is this scene? Everything is brightly colored, as if nature had taken over the world again, which could have taken years or even decades.
Final Fantasy 16 came out on June 22, 2023, and you can get it on the PS5.
